Reddit is the only forum that really registers (72% of forum citations over the last month) for AI tools, but it’s still a small slice: only about 6% of AI answers cite it.

So, what pulls it in? Three question themes lead: practicality, reliability and electric. Together, they account for 37% of all Reddit citations. And it’s not random. Reddit gets cited when the question has no spec-sheet answer, because the answer depends on real-world, real-life responses and experiences.
🪑 Practicality focuses on comfort for real bodies and real roads. “What car has the best suspension for potholed UK roads?” pulled Reddit in 10 of the 20 times it was asked. Others: best car for a short driver, a tall driver, bad backs, three child seats. The threads cited are owners swapping notes, like “what car has the smoothest ride over UK roads”, “short people, what car do you drive?” and “comfy cars for bad backs”.
🔧 Reliability: trust and cost of ownership. Petrol vs diesel reliability, two-year service intervals, cheapest parts, least likely to be stolen. The single most-cited thread is “what are considered the most reliable car brands” (18 citations), followed by “are diesels inherently more reliable than petrol?” and “2 year service interval, red flag or normal?”
⚡ Electric: the cost and practicality of switching. Best EV under £10k or £12k, is an EV cheaper to run than petrol, are Chinese EVs any good and which EV works if you rely on public charging. The threads cited include “best EV for a daily motorway commute”, “Chinese EVs in the UK, are they worth it?”, PCP deals and salary sacrifice providers.
What about sentiment? It’s overwhelmingly constructive. Of the brand mentions in the latest run’s Reddit-citing answers, around 54% are positive, 44% neutral and under 3% negative. The negativity isn’t spread evenly, either: nearly half of it (21 of 46 negative statements) comes from reliability questions, with depreciation warnings in the value and budget questions. Electric and practicality answers barely register a negative (1 and 2 statements).
